Dear Cherokee Point Families,
Welcome back to school! Our team is so excited to welcome our students and families to the 2024- 2025 school year. I am honored to serve as the school principal and look forward to my eighth year with our Cherokee Point Cheetah Families.
We are thrilled to continue year two with the Community School work. Our school team is dedicated to taking a deeper dive into the student, parent, teacher, and community surveys from last year to better understand the needs of our school and create teams to further investigate the areas that are most important to our school community. The five areas that emerged from last year’s surveys were teaching and learning, enrichment, behavior, safety/facilities, and engagement:attendance. We look forward to working closely with all our educational partners this year in these areas.
As a Trauma Informed school using Restorative Justice Practices, our staff understands that every child comes to us with a different background and has various needs in the area of academics and social emotional growth. Everyone regardless of cultural differences, beliefs, and backgrounds are welcomed and respected on our campus. All staff make a concerted effort to ensure that parents and students feel safe, supported, heard, included, and welcomed.
Attendance remains to be our number focus as we know that kids need to be at school in order to learn. Research shows that when students are chronically late or absent, it adversely affects their academics as they tend to have lower reading levels and lower ability to perform in multiple subject areas. When students miss school, they miss out on learning! Please work with your child and family to create an evening routine with students early as 8 p.m. and a morning routine that helps students arrive by 7:30 a.m. everyday.
Every year I ask that parents and caregivers work as a team with the school in order to achieve a high level of success for their child. Communication is essential to your child’s success. Please make sure that you are connected to the CLASS DOJO application on your phone once school starts. This is the main form of communication between the school and family members. Teacher and school announcements will be posted to CLASS DOJO weekly. Your classroom teacher will help you get connected once school starts. Please be sure to call/email/CLASS DOJO message your teacher if you have any questions early so that any questions or concerns can be addressed immediately. It is also extremely important that parent and guardian contact information and phone number is accurate and updated in the office in case of an emergency. If you have any difficulty connecting with staff, please email me directly at [email protected] and I can support you.
Please consider getting involved by joining our Community School Team, school teams like School Site Council, Site Governance Team, PTO, and volunteer on campus before school, during school, and after school. Together, we will have the best school year possible! Thank you for your ongoing support! I am to serve another year with this incredible community.
Warmly,
Mrs. Corral
